It’s been a long, difficult road trip so far…
…with lots of potholes, detours and rubbernecking distractions that lasted for years at a time, but I finally reached the fork in the road. It’s been 17 years since the writing bug gave me a ferocious bite and I’ve spent most of that time convincing myself that writing wasn’t worth pursuing as anything more than a hobby. But about a year and a half ago, I realized with incredible clarity that nothing makes me happier than writing. I’m never more creatively satisfied than after spending a day staring at a blank computer screen, struggling to string the perfect set of words together.
I’m going to celebrate my first short story publication with the kickoff of this blog. The story is online at Toasted Cheese Literary Journal and free for anyone to read. Just click on the link below if you’re interested. I typically write speculative fiction, especially science fiction, but this piece is just dark. No speculative fiction elements present.
This publication is a mere first step in an even longer and more arduous journey ahead of me because as I stood there at the fork in the road, mulling over my two choices, I opted for the third. I stepped off the road and started blazing my own path through the thick woods. With a lightsaber and a raygun, of course. Should be easy enough. If only these carnivorous plants would stop attacking me.
